Pavel ‘Pasha’ Talankin is a teacher and videographer at a school in Karabash, an industrial town in the Urals. With the Russian invasion of Ukraine, everyday school life changes fundamentally. Political indoctrination, state propaganda, compulsory patriotic lessons and military rituals henceforth dominate school life, designed to prepare children and young people for war and obedience.

Commissioned by the school authorities to officially document this development, Talankin uses his position to carry out a dangerous act of personal resistance: he secretly records what is actually happening in the classrooms. At considerable personal risk, he has created a testimony that is as harrowing as it is moving – one that speaks of militarisation, moral courage and the struggle for freedom of thought.
