Asya Ashman and Therese Bendjus/Belmon explore the possibilities and potential of destroying movement and matter through performative practices, dance, and sound.
They investigate the interplay between destruction and regeneration, questioning how these can embody both collapse and the potential for renewal—not as opposites, but as interdependent forces. Destruction itself interests Asya and Belmon as an actualization of anger and empowerment in positions of oppression, as well as a space of loss and grief.
In attempting to capture this moment of total destruction, they ask: What is the difference between destruction and deconstruction, and their relationship to violence? How much violence is inherent in ending things?
The "neworks" series continues in 2026 under the motto "CONTINUE WORKING." It aims to provide artists with the opportunity to continue research processes they have begun, develop them into a full-length performance, and present it at the ada Studio.
