This special exhibition sheds light on the collaboration spanning almost 30 years between the painter and illustrator Max Slevogt and the publisher Bruno Cassirer – a creative partnership that played a decisive role in establishing Slevogt as a leading figure of German Impressionism.

Cassirer’s involvement as a key figure in the cultural world afforded Slevogt artistic freedom and fostered his innovative approaches in the field of illustrated books. In particular, their shared passion for drawing opened up new creative possibilities. With the founding of the influential journal *Kunst und Künstler*, Cassirer had a decisive influence on the art-theoretical discourse of his time. Together, they created works that are today regarded as milestones in the field of artistic book illustration.
