Construction site tour with project manager Robert Neye, SPSG

All park maintenance measures are organized in the farm yard of the Sanssouci Palace Park, the so-called park area II/III. The office and social rooms for the gardeners as well as storage and parking space for the machinery are located here.

The park areas II/III are part of the former Sanssouci court gardening facility. This developed over the course of the 19th century until it reached its greatest extent around 1886 with different structures to accommodate the plants.

These included greenhouses, ground level and with a lowered floor to use geothermal energy, but also sheds for storing equipment and storage areas.

The project includes upgrading the existing buildings as storage and shower areas as well as repairing the greenhouses in accordance with listed buildings.

The new building to accommodate the offices, break rooms, changing rooms, washrooms and toilets, a workshop area with garages and storage and shower areas (covered and open outside) will be made as a wooden structure, the roof will be designed as a green roof and the facade will have a Durable outer skin made of wooden shingles.

By heating the entire facility with a wood chip heater, the wood waste generated during the management of the park can be used to generate energy. From the entrance gate, the tour leads across the construction site to the historic greenhouses and from there into the garage halls. On the south side of the construction site, participants walk past the building into the social rooms.
