Whether in the former GDR, with the Deutsche Bundespost, or today for Deutsche Post AG – those who deliver mail by bicycle every day have their own unique stories to tell.
The Museum für Kommunikation Berlin is collecting exactly these stories. What do mail carriers experience on their daily delivery routes? What is typical, what is extraordinary? And what has changed over the years?
Personal experiences, anecdotes, photos, and interviews are all part of the upcoming exhibition “Never Without a Bike”. From February 27 to August 30, 2026, the exhibition will explore the development and significance of the bicycle in the German postal system – from its beginnings around 1900 to the present day. It shows how transport bicycles – from classic models to modern e-trikes – have shaped the daily working life of postal employees for decades. The exhibition will also examine the potential role cycling played in the emancipation of women.
