Maxime Pascal, Principal Guest Conductor of the Deutsche Oper, will conduct Stockhausen’s “Wednesday of Light” this season and lead the symphonic concert “Turangalîla”—Messiaen’s overwhelming love song, inspired by the legend of Tristan and Isolde: love as a cosmic force, insatiable and boundless. For his film selection, he has chosen Miyazaki’s *Princess Mononoke*: the same questions, a dying forest, no easy answers.
Synopsis:
Ashitaka, a prince of the Emishi people—a tribe on the brink of extinction—is cursed by a demonic boar god and must embark on a journey westward to find a cure. Along the way, he meets San, a young human woman fighting to protect the forest, and Lady Eboshi, who is trying to destroy it. Ashitaka must find a way to restore balance in this conflict.
With “Unlimited,” opera comes to the movies: In one of the theaters at delphi Lux, artists from this opera season will showcase their secret favorite films, guilty pleasures, or cinematic sources of inspiration in the context of the opera productions—and introduce them in person. All in the spirit of the season’s motto, “Make Love…”
