During a quiet holiday night in the strip club, the five protagonists of the Berlin Strippers Collective are confronted with power outages, the financial crisis, a single lonely guest, demanding management, pressure to perform and the fear of criminalization. As the night escalates, they bring their (political) fears, frustrations and, last but not least, their humor to the stage.
After the sold-out premiere, which ended with standing ovations at the Volksbühne in 2022, Merry Stripmas is coming back to the stage in an adapted and updated form: storytelling and the art of approaching every situation with pragmatism, humor and the will to survive are celebrated.
Sex workers are professional service providers and entertainers who shape Berlin's cultural and nightlife - in clubs, at festivals and in theaters. They are talented tellers of their own stories who defend themselves against the stigmatization of their living and working environments in a variety of ways.
Merry Stripmas – It Only Takes One is produced, written and performed by sex workers and breaks stereotypical narratives about their industry.
Can be seen in two performances on December 31st and January 1st in the Great Hall of the Volksbühne at Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz.
The Berlin Strippers Collective has been shaping Berlin's culture and nightlife for three years. It advocates for the destigmatization and decriminalization of sex work. The creative and political collective emerged out of solidarity with one another and fuses sexuality, politics and dance in its performances.
