Every year, the European collaborative project ‘Melting Pot’ brings together a new line-up of young improvisational musicians who share the stage in front of an audience without extensive rehearsals.

This year, the Berliner Festspiele / Jazzfest Berlin, Handelsbeurs Concertzaal (Ghent), Jazztopad (Wrocław) and Nasjonal Jazzscene Victoria (Oslo) have each invited one musician from their region to take part: For the first time, saxophonist Heidi Kvelvane, guitarist Haroun Iqbal, double bassist Mikołaj Nowicki and drummer Raiga Hayashi are coming together for a joint session. The appeal and uniqueness of ‘Melting Pot’ lie in the fact that artists from different backgrounds come together outside their usual contexts, improvise together and, in doing so, transcend stylistic and geographical boundaries to create something new live on stage.

Neighbourhood Session #3
From Monday to Saturday, Jazzfest Berlin invites young musicians to play an active part in shaping the festival. Students from the Jazz Institut Berlin will be entertaining the Moabit neighbourhood with free lunch concerts and Kiez-Sessions, the latter of which are open to anyone with an interest in music to take an active part.
