LOVE BOX
A society without money or the pressure to compete: the utopian AfrikaBurn Festival, the largest offshoot of the world-famous Burning Man, becomes the setting for a unique experiment. In the middle of the South African desert, a motley crew of friends sets up their LOVEBOX spaceship, which takes visitors on a journey to the stars and into their own inner selves.
In the vastness of space, two strangers meet for a few minutes and answer a question about love for one another. Their glances and conversations open up a path to community and lead to transformative self-awareness. As the dust of the festival settles, the friends set out to bring the magic of the LOVEBOX into people’s stressful everyday lives. But can the sense of connection and openness they have experienced endure beyond this utopian fantasy?
LOVEBOX tells a story of friendship, a spirit of experimentation and the search for closeness in a world often characterised by mistrust and division. The film shows how art can create spaces in which people can truly connect – beyond roles, opinions and boundaries. In a time of growing division, LOVEBOX is a film about courage, openness and the hope that connection remains possible.
