Love songs, dirges, mocking and drinking songs from the Cancionero de Palacio
Love songs, dirges, bawdy mocking and drinking songs – well over 500 compositions were compiled in the Cancionero de Palacio. The collection of the Catholic Kings of Castile and Aragon contains pieces by a good 50 composers that were written on the threshold of the 16th century and are of very different types: artfully crafted polyphony meets simple three-part music that could just as easily have been invented on the spot, carnivalesque Alternating songs with deeply sad walking dances.
The chamber choir orchi e balene connects them to an archaic soundscape in which not everything is strictly historical.
