Fields looks back on a career that has spanned almost his entire life, beginning in his youth in the 1960s. The Beatles inspired him to buy a guitar; James Brown led him to soul.
His shows are sermons on the goodness within people. For him, it is about ‘soothing the soul’ and taking pleasure in life’s little things. ‘When you lose love, you also lose your bearings in life.’ Renowned broadcasters such as ARTE, WDR Rockpalast and KEXP have recorded performances by Lee Fields & The Expressions over the years, preserving them for posterity. But of course, the best way to experience Lee Fields and his soul music is still live at his concerts.
