The HBKsaar’s Guest Appearance at the Bode-Museum

The special exhibition by young artists at the Saar Academy of Fine Arts (HBKsaar) aims to highlight the mutually enriching effect of exchange.

Old art and historical objects can have a powerful effect. They become significant when they are connected to one another. And this often happens in a way that is not so different from the reception intended centuries ago.

Students at the HBKsaar were fascinated by the pious, ecstatic or grotesque figures during a visit to the Bode Museum. The mythological figures, the biblical sinners and saints evoked in them a feeling of great distance, but also of closeness. Although these animated bodies come from other times, the old heroes and saints are human figures - just like today.

The young artists entered into an exciting dialogue with the figures and discovered a lot of contemporary things in the initially strange human bodies. In the form of installations, photo art, augmented reality and video, they developed approaches to old art that make the objects vivid, lively and experienceable in an unusual way.
