*Songs of Erosion* is a project by Clara Levy and Victor Guaita Igual that offers a contemporary reinterpretation of the *Cantigas de Santa Maria*.

This 13th-century Spanish song collection contains over 420 songs, as well as legends, historical accounts, medical remedies and scenes of courtly love. The musicians treat the manuscript – which straddles the sacred and the popular – as an archaeological artefact and reinterpret it through a series of instructions inspired by geological processes of erosion.

For *Songs of Erosion*, Levi and Igual focus on two *cantigas*, which they explore through the concepts of sedimentation and landslides: with *Alluvium*, the duo reflects on repetition as a process of both deposition and renewal, whilst *Landslide* examines instability as a creative force. Conceived as a collaborative and evolving space, the project explores various timescales – geological, biological, historical and musical – whilst posing the question: what remains of these 800-year-old songs?
