Since the beginning of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine, which violates international law, in the spring of 2022, there have been increasing calls for additions, but also necessary clarifications, to the Protestant peace ethic in view of the challenges of the present.

The global political architecture had already changed since the last peace memorial from the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD) in 2007. At the same time, sensitivity to geostrategic considerations and postcolonial criticism has grown since then. However, a consolidated, jointly supported further development of the peace ethic within the EKD is still missing.
