Hannah Schillinger

Based on Friedrich Schiller’s classic bourgeois novel *The Maid of Orleans*, this dance performance explores cultural-historical motifs shaped by the patriarchal gaze and reinterprets them from a queer perspective.

Disobedient, tender, and seductive, *Joan* unfolds as a blend of embodied storytelling, spectacle, and ritual. The performers explore how heroic and religious gestures can be reinterpreted and recontextualized.

“Joan” addresses the question of who shapes cultural narratives, which perspectives are expressed within them and which are excluded, and how stories can be opened up through plural perspectives.

*Note: At certain moments, audience members are invited to interact with the performance, if they wish to do so.
