You can choose from a wide selection of papers with different qualities, finishes and characteristics. Using a needle, thread and awl, we’ll explore traditional Japanese binding techniques and see how individual sheets of paper are transformed into a book with a character all of its own.
Without using any glue at all, the paper is held together by carefully placed stitches. You’ll experiment with thread patterns and binding designs and discover how small changes affect the overall look. The result is a unique book in which craftsmanship, material and design come together, and the binding itself becomes a visible part of the artwork.
