„LASS UNS EIN WUNDER SEIN“
Summer 1970: Rio Reiser sings ‘Macht kaputt, was Euch kaputt macht’ (Destroy what destroys you) – the birth of the political and cult rock band Ton Steine Scherben.
Like no other German band, the Scherben express the attitude to life of their generation. But Rio Reiser is also a charismatic loner. When the band splits up in 1985, Rio begins his solo career. Behind the political rocker emerges the romantic dreamer who expresses his longing for security and love in his songs.
Jan Plewka and the Schwarz-Rote Heilsarmee put this vulnerable Rio at the centre of their evening. And when they play the songs of the former ‘King of Germany’ such as ‘Halt Dich an Deiner Liebe fest’ (Hold on to your love), ‘Alles Lüge’ (All lies), “Junimond” (June moon) or ‘Für immer Dich’ (Forever yours), it goes far beyond a mere rock concert.
For Jan Plewka, the front man of Selig, is singer, musician and actor all at once on this evening. He is very close to his idol and yet always remains himself. And the audience is enthralled, enthusiastic, moved. It succumbs to his voice and his charm in equal measure.
This concert tour featuring the songs of Rio Reiser has been going on since 2005. And even after more than 250 concerts, the evening has lost none of its urgency and charisma. On the contrary, what the Hamburger Abendblatt wrote at the time of the premiere still applies: ‘Anyone who wants to cry with happiness,’ it said, ‘must see this evening.’
