Embodied Practice with Sorour Darabi as part of the series „wielding fissures – carving cracks in the surface of the now“
As a thematic introduction, the artist offers “It Takes a Broken Voice,” inviting anyone interested in dance and vocal work to explore selected moments from the creative process behind the piece “Mille et Une Nuits.”
Several years ago, Sorour Darabi began integrating voice work into his choreographic processes.
For “Mille et Une Nuits,” he collaborated with Henry Brown, a transmasculine opera singer and researcher who specializes in trans voices in opera.
Together, they began intensive vocal work with all the performers.
In this “Embodied Practice” session, Sorour Darabi invites participants to work on a trans-friendly vocal aesthetic.
The focus is on creativity and the ways in which the experience of vocal transition—particularly in the context of hormone therapy—can transform and enrich our relationship to the body and the voice.
