Guided tour
“When you write, you must write in such a way that you sense the possibility behind the despair and the way out behind the downfall.” — Anna Seghers, from: Selbstanzeige
A View Beyond the City Limits
In Berlin-Adlershof, the writer Anna Seghers found a new home after many years in exile. Her apartment, where she lived from 1955 to 1981, contains not only many personal mementos but also her extensive library of around 10,000 volumes, including signed copies from many writer friends.
Her living room served as a gathering place for friends from various countries, with whom she also corresponded.
Those who venture to the outskirts of the city gain not only insights into Seghers’ eventful life and her steadfast literary commitment to social change of global significance, but also into her appreciation for the visual arts and her transatlantic perspective, rooted in personal experience. It is no coincidence that she called the balcony in front of her apartment a “masthead,” from which she could gaze into the distance as if the sea lay beyond the trees.
Three special tours will take place on International Museum Day at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m.
Registration is requested due to limited space. Admission is only possible 5 to 10 minutes before the tour begins.
The museum invites you to free special tours of the former apartment of writer Anna Seghers, filled with books and personal mementos.
