In Search of Schöneweide's Lost Workers' Bars

Did you know that there were once more than 90 pubs in Oberschöneweide, a veritable pub culture? Pubs have always been more than just places to drink; they were social spaces central to the daily lives of workers.

Starting in 1895, Oberschöneweide emerged as a hub of Berlin’s electrical industry. Companies such as AEG and, later, VEB Kabelwerk Oberspree employed thousands of workers.

After their shift at the factory, people would meet up at the pub. Over a beer, they would relax and discuss the day’s events. It was also a place to escape their precarious living conditions and organize strikes.

Join this tour to trace the vanished workers’ pubs of Oberschöneweide.

After the tour, you can enjoy a cold drink on the terrace at the Industriesalon Schöneweide.

This event is part of the Berlin Industrial Heritage Festival.
