Maxim Emelyanychev comes from a family of Russian musicians and studied piano and conducting before being accepted into the class of conductor Gennady Rozhdestvensky at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory.
He also specialized in historical keyboard instruments and the cornet. Following his highly acclaimed debut in 2022 with the Sveriges Radios Symfoniorkester, he was appointed Principal Guest Conductor of the orchestra for a three-year term beginning with the 2025–26 season.
