A story about theatre, dreams and power

An audition: Lina is prepared, as is the audience – only the director is missing. So this is the time to tell the story of how it all began: with a directing placement. Lina didn’t even know exactly what that was. “Never mind, as long as it’s theatre!”

Things are going well: she’s being noticed, praised, encouraged. The director recognises her talent and believes in her. Collaboration turns into closeness; closeness into trust. And whilst Lina acts, reminisces, sings and comments, a picture gradually emerges of a relationship in which recognition and dependence lie dangerously close to one another.

GLANZ tells a story – with self-deprecating humour, bitter irony and in direct dialogue with the audience – of grand dreams, subtle shifts and the mechanisms of power – in the theatre and wherever careers, recognition and hierarchies intersect.
