Why do people in relationships become perpetrators? And what social conditions contribute to violence in close-knit social circles? The initiative “Zukunft Ohne Gewalt – Gewaltfreie Familien, Beziehungen, Gesellschaft e.V.” (IZOG e.V.) will address these questions during a special event in September.

The findings of a multi-year nationwide survey on violence in close-knit social circles will not simply be presented in the form of a traditional lecture. Instead, “Violence. Happens. Every Day. Right Next to You.” is an interactive, multimedia installation that invites visitors to engage with the themes of power, responsibility, violence, and change.

The installation is conceived as a space for discovery, decision-making, and listening. It reveals how violence can arise and develop within everyday relationships and social structures—while also raising the question of what possibilities exist for taking responsibility and initiating change.

The focus is not only on the perspectives of those affected, but also on examining the origins of perpetration. What dynamics lead people to exercise power over others? What role do personal, social, and societal factors play? And what can help identify and prevent violence early on?

The exhibition’s unconventional format is designed to encourage visitors to question familiar assumptions and actively engage with their own perspectives on violence. It’s not just about watching, but about observing, reflecting, and taking a stand—that is the essence of this interactive format.
