Lecture by Gerd Schurig, former curator of historic gardens

In 2022, Gerd Schurig learnt of a treasure trove of garden history lying dormant in Bückeburg: a garden diary kept for over 24 years by Emil Sellos, who, from 1864 onwards, looked after the gardens around the New Palace under Crown Princess Victoria.

This lecture will discuss the context, content and some notable aspects of this ‘garden journal’, which was made available to the academic community last year through a joint initiative by the Princely Administration of Bückeburg, the Lower Saxony State Archives and the SPSG.
