“The language is not to blame” says a poem by the Ukrainian poet Aleksandr Ratner, written in Russian! And this evening's songs come from this very language. So:

“I would like to tell you something, and I don’t even know what your name is.” A song by the bard Oleg Mitjajew begins with this line, as translated by Frank Viehweg. The other songs in this program, which the poet-singer has smuggled into German from an unfamiliar language, are also aimed at meeting people. Mityaev is joined by the rock poets Yuri Shevchuk (DDT), Boris Grebenshikov (Aquarium) and Konstantin Nikolski, the songwriters Aleksandr Dolski, Andrei Makarevich and Yuri Visbor with their songs, whose texts need not fear comparison with the greats of Russian poetry. In the East Slavic-speaking area, Frank Viehweg meets his chosen relatives and travels with them. Dobra and Mira!
