Performance by Christoph Winkler

Following its successful premiere in 2024 and international tours, Christoph Winkler's performance "Four Non Blondes" returns to the Berlin stage. The production by the Christoph Winkler Dance Theatre Company explores the multifaceted nuances and ambivalences of blondeness, incorporating the cultural history and political significance of blond hair.

Blonde hair originated as a genetic mutation in Northern Europe approximately 11,000 years ago. Only two percent of people are naturally blond. A rare phenomenon, then—and for some, a desirable attribute: blond hair is associated with youth, attractiveness, and purity, while simultaneously symbolizing whiteness, social advancement, rebellion, and self-determination. Over the centuries, the meanings associated with blond hair have shifted depending on the time and society.

Four Non Blondes” is a choreographic concert in which four non-blonde performers and a singer combine their personal experiences, elements of digital theatre and political narratives to re-examine the myth of blondeness.
