Film premiere of “Tomorrow Morning, I’m Leaving” & accompanying talk with Mahesh Subramaniam, Keren Cytter, Bjørn Melhus and Gustavo Gomes, moderation: Renan Laru-an

On 27 November, Forecast and the Berlinische Galerie will screen “Tomorrow Morning, I’m Leaving”, a new film by the artist and filmmaker Mahesh Subramaniam, a mentee in the Forecast Mentoring Programme 2026/27.

The new work is the result of an intensive process of experimentation and dialogue with his Forecast mentor, the artist and filmmaker Keren Cytter. The screening at the Berlinische Galerie marks its first public showing.

The short film traces the final day of a man’s life in Bengaluru, a city in India where, although he has lived for years, he has never quite been able to call it home. Before leaving the city for good, he performs a ritual involving a glass workshop in his neighbourhood: he carries a small mirror to the places and people he will soon lose, in the hope that the glass might preserve what he himself cannot. The film, which blends documentary and fiction, explores memory, belonging, uprooting and the elusive nature of home.

The premiere also brings together other members of the Forecast community on stage and as guests: following the screening, Mahesh Subramaniam and Keren Cytter will speak with the artist Bjørn Melhus (Forecast mentor, 2016–17), choreographer Gustavo Gomes (mentee, 2022–23) and curator and theorist Renan Laru-an (mentee, 2016–17) about the film’s creation, the mentoring process and the potential of ongoing artistic exchange.

  • The film will be screened throughout the weekend at the Berlinische Galerie.
