Guided tour led by expert Wiebke Müller, a conservator with the SPSG
Prince Heinrich’s summer apartment contains the only surviving example of Chinese wallpaper in the palace. The wall decoration, originally painted on a white background with exotic birds and flowers, has suffered extensive damage since it was installed in 1760, particularly due to sunlight streaming through the south-facing windows and the room’s varied uses over the years. Restoration work took place in the 1990s, with the wallpaper being re-hung in 2002. During this period, the library also had its wall decoration restored – a reconstruction of the first early Classicist paper wall decoration in Prussia, fragments of which had survived.
