Evidence, Gaps, and Responsibility

This year’s Archives Day is themed “Archives for Justice: Rights, Memory & Futures” (#ArchivesForJustice). Against this backdrop, the event offers insight into the tasks, responsibilities, and conditions of working with archival materials.

The Provenance Research Team investigates the origins of acquired cultural property. In doing so, it focuses on whether it may have been unlawfully taken from its former owners. This often reveals not only unusual stories behind the objects, but also human destinies.

In this open-format session, we’ll explain how, where, and what is stored in the museum’s archives—and when and for whom it can be made available—as well as what cannot. Questions are welcome and encouraged!
