A production by the Ensemble Flaschengeist
The Ensemble Flaschengeist, in "Everyone Has Their Own Grave", written and directed by Mohamed Nabil, explores the themes of death, burial, and migration in a thought-provoking yet entertaining way.
What role does one's homeland play after death? Does a deceased person belong in their country of origin or their country of immigration? Two Germans with migrant backgrounds must agree on this before they can bury their father. And then there is the stubborn undertaker, who has his own unique ideas about life and death.
Ahlam and Fatima, two German sisters with a migration background, meet in a morgue to discuss their father’s burial. Ahlam insists on burying him in Germany, while Fatima wants to lay him to rest in his home country. The play delves into this conflict through a multilayered story about alienation, existence, and death.
