BLACK RESISTANCE PRACTICE 1 explores practices of Black resistance across time and territory.
Colleen Ndemeh Fitzgerald, Naledi Majola, and Sointu Pere invite the audience into an improvised landscape that draws on diverse stories from Africa and the diaspora—stories of the infinite ways of resisting oppression.
From spontaneous armed rebellions to organized military battles to the generations-long struggles to maintain one's identity and dignity—all these forms of resistance provide important inspiration today if we are willing to listen.
The project was created as part of the "New Techniques" residency program at the Sophiensælen. Using methods of Afro-diasporic exchange and improvisation, a collective practice was developed to build a collective body that simultaneously performs/moves/constructs/resists together.

FERAL
Josefina Cerda
This vocal sound performance explores processes of sexualization, objectification, and the empowerment of personal pleasure. The performer tells the story of her personal journey, from a hypersexualized childhood to an adult who explores ways of finding pleasure through domination, sex work, and BDSM.
In an intimate performance, live sound intertwines with sexual technologies to create a narrative in which FERAL becomes the defense of the object against the human.
- Design, Performance: Josefina Cerda
- Makeup: Pedro Gramegna, John Alvarez
- Prosthetics: O'Ryan Lab
