The Disney global hit will come to Berlin for the first time in 2027.
Disney brings its classic tale to the stage as an enchanting musical, combining emotional depth, monumental music, and breathtaking visuals. The story of the hunchback Quasimodo and his unrequited love for Esmeralda continues to touch audiences across generations.
A timeless story of courage, love, and humanity
Based on Victor Hugo's novel of the same name, the musical transports audiences to medieval Paris—from the spires of Notre Dame Cathedral to the city's dark alleyways. At its heart is Quasimodo, the disfigured bell ringer who lives in seclusion and yearns for his place in the world.
When he encounters rejection at the Feast of Fools, he finds an ally in the courageous and compassionate Esmeralda. But their connection becomes a target for the fanatical Archdeacon Frollo. In a world marked by prejudice and abuse of power, Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame tells a moving story of outsider status, justice, and a love that transcends death.
From film to musical: Powerful emotions on stage
The new German-language production of "Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame" comes from the renowned Budapest Operetta Theatre, which has already thrilled over a million audience members with "Disney's Beauty and the Beast." Starting in October 2026, the musical will embark on its first major six-month tour.
The captivating music of Alan Menken
The impressive soundscape of the musical is the work of multiple Oscar-winning composer Alan Menken. He has already created the unforgettable songs for Disney classics such as The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Hercules, and Pocahontas.
Together with renowned lyricist Stephen Schwartz (Wicked), a musical masterpiece was created, ranging from grand choral numbers and powerful anthems to touching ballads. In addition to the familiar songs from the film, further tracks are presented in a symphonic soundscape, lending the story a special emotional depth.
Top-class ensemble and live orchestra
The ensemble of the Budapest Operetta Theatre is accompanied by a 14-piece live orchestra. This extraordinary combination allows Alan Menken's music to shine in all its facets and lends the production a special poetry and intensity.
Guest performance in Berlin at the Admiralspalast
From March 3 to 20, 2027, the production will be at the Admiralspalast in Berlin. Audiences can expect a musical experience that is as spectacular as it is deeply moving – a modern stage epic about being an outsider, love, and humanity against the impressive backdrop of Notre-Dame.
Victor Hugo's Classic and Its Global Impact
Notre-Dame de Paris is not only an architectural masterpiece, but also the heart of Victor Hugo's famous novel, "The Hunchback of Notre-Dame." The 1956 film adaptation starring Anthony Quinn and Gina Lollobrigida became an international success. In 1996, Disney set new standards with its animated film of the same name: a moving story, haunting songs, and timeless messages about humanity, tolerance, and inclusion.
Notre-Dame de Paris: iconic building with global appeal
The fate of Notre-Dame de Paris moved people around the world in 2019. Following the devastating fire in April, large parts of the Gothic landmark were destroyed. The extensive reconstruction culminated in a magnificent reopening in December 2024 – since then, Notre-Dame has stood more than ever as a symbol of hope, unity, and compassion.
