Whether it's the fight against the threat of homelessness, the search for an affordable room in a shared apartment, the endless applications for an apartment or the question of whether a loan can be raised for a condominium - the concern and fight for living space is more than ever an existential one become a question. “Rent is the social question of our time,” says Thomas Melle’s text, which is a complex social panorama, a score across all classes.
In the battle of all against all, the housing market is a war zone. In order to get the coveted apartment, any means is acceptable, whether you humiliate yourself or be humiliated. How long will we allow the basic right to housing to be economized, and when will excessive speculative greed lead to revolt?
The author and with him the director Katrin Plötner and the 3rd year drama class at the UdK Berlin explore these questions. Because if the fear of being unhoused causes the achievements of civilization to erode, social peace threatens to collapse.
