After the overwhelming success of this event in recent years, we are presenting the “Staatsstreicher”, tenor Stephan Rügamer, who sings the role of “Mime” in the “Ring” production, and baritone Johannes Martin Kränzle, in the role of “ Alberich", a musical-satirical look at Wagner's work.
In a merciless reappraisal of the “Ring,” the fictional author and Gifhorn magistrate Ernst von Pidde attests to each character in the tetralogy the punishment they deserve for their misdeeds. Whether murder or manslaughter, kidnapping or theft, arson or cruelty to animals: Wagner's gods, heroes and giants do not leave out any shameful act.
The “Staatstreicher” have joined forces to form a viola quartet in order to provide a, sometimes tongue-in-cheek, commentary on their instrument and the core repertoire of “their” Staatsoper Unter den Linden in this unusual line-up as “Comedian Violists”.
You can accompany Pidde's text, spoken by Stephan Rügamer and Johannes Martin Kränzle, with music from the "Ring", "The Flying Dutchman", "Lohengrin", "Parsifal" but also "Der Rosenkavalier" and "Don Giovanni".
