For this year's Open Monument Day, the Spandau Cultural Office invites you to a special cultural festival at the historic Neukladow manor house.

Built around 1800 on the banks of the Havel River, this ensemble was once a meeting place for Berlin society and home to numerous artists and cultural figures during the time of Johannes Guthmann. Now it is opening its doors for a diverse programme of art, music and history.

Programme

The cultural festival at the Neukladow manor house is not only intended to revive the splendour of days gone by, but also to provide an outlook on the future of the manor house complex. Gradually, the entire building complex, consisting of the manor house, the administrator's house, the casino and the gatehouse, is to be renovated and given a new cultural use – starting with the central manor house, which will house an art museum.

An exhibition on the ground floor already gives a foretaste of what is to come. Here, paintings of the Havel from the district's art collection are on display. Further exhibitions on the upper floor and in the gatehouse are dedicated to contemporary artists from the region. In the park, plein air artists invite visitors to watch them at work, while concerts of classical chamber music and jazz provide the musical backdrop. The festival offers an opportunity to discover the history of this special place and its potential as a new, major art and cultural location for Spandau and Berlin.

Special highlights include guided tours of the listed manor house during the Guthmann family era and insights into its planned future as an art museum and cultural venue with Dr. Ralf F. Hartmann, Head of the Spandau Cultural Office. Christian Hamm, responsible for the administration and project development of the Neukladow manor house, will also be offering a glimpse into the administrator's house, which has not been open to the public for a long time, on Open Monument Day. A panel discussion with State Secretary Stephan Machulik and District Councillor Dr Carola Brückner will shed light on the new prospects for Neukladow.

The event will conclude with a contemporary interpretation of a painted view of the manor house by Max Slevogt (Flower Garden with Peacock, 1912) in the form of a musical and vocal performance choreographed by Laurie Schwarz.
