To mark ‘German Unity Day’, the Barnim Nature Park Tourism Association traditionally organises a guided walk under the theme ‘Crossing Borders’.

The walk starts shortly after 10.00 am at Schönerlinde station, which can be reached by the RB 27 train at 09.57 am from Berlin-Karow, at 09.32 am from Wandlitzsee or at 09.40 am from Basdorf.

From there, the walking route follows the ‘Löwenzahnpfad’ (Dandelion Trail), where, with a bit of luck, you may spot water buffalo, Konik horses and a wide variety of birdlife. The route then continues past the ‘Schönerlinder Teiche’ (Schönerlinde Ponds) to the historically significant Stadtgut Berlin-Blankenfelde.

Here, members of StadtGut Blankenfelde e. V. will lead a guided tour of the grounds of this traditional four-sided farmstead typical of the Mark Brandenburg region. The residential buildings, the ‘Kurhaus’ and ‘Gutshaus’, the ‘Steinscheune’ – which serves as a residential, commercial and exhibition space – and the ‘Spritzenhäuschen’ will be viewed from the outside, as will the large park with its century-old chestnut trees and other ancient trees, which has been preserved in its natural state.

Afterwards, visitors can view the permanent exhibition ‘Rieselfelder, Liegekur und Runkelrüben’, which provides information on the history of the Stadtgut and the village of Blankenfelde, including stories of flight and refugees around the years 1945 and 1961 along the former border between East and West Berlin, as well as the technical developments of the Rieselfelder facilities.

Coffee and cake are then available on a pay-as-you-go basis at the ‘Traktorista’ café.

The return journey can be made on BVG bus route 107 to Berlin-Pankow, or the walk can be continued independently as far as Berlin-Lübars. From Lübars, BVG bus route 222 connects to Berlin’s S-Bahn and U-Bahn networks.

  • Participation is free of charge.
