Expert guided tour with sculpture curator Dr. Silke Kiesant and conservator Robert Kannis, both SPSG

In March of this year, the dismantling of the parapet sculptures on the theater wing of the Neues Palais began. They can now be seen standing close together on the mopke on the northern side wing or already opposite in the provisional showers of the freelance restorers.

The four-metre-high giants can now be viewed almost eye to eye. And you can see how artfully and strikingly many of the figures have been crafted, even though it is supposedly impossible to make out the details at this lofty height. Some of the colossi are only sketchily and crudely crafted, while others are among the most important works of late Frederician Rococo.

The tour invites you to look at the details and analyze the themes from the ancient world of the gods, which are far from being fully explored. Is there a connection to Frederick the Great's monumental guest palace, which was built after the Seven Years' War from 1763 to 1769?

You can also look over the shoulders of the restorers currently working on the palace. Current requirements for the restoration of the sandstone sculptures are explained.
