In 2026, the Alte Nationalgalerie on Berlin's Museum Island will pay tribute to one of the most important art dealers of his time: Paul Cassirer (1871–1926). Featuring over 100 outstanding works of Impressionism and classical modernism, the exhibition highlights Cassirer's impressive commitment to art.

Cassirer and the breakthrough of Impressionism at a glance

Paul Cassirer played a decisive role in bringing artists such as Cézanne, Degas, Manet, Monet, Pissarro and van Gogh to German museums and collections.
As an art dealer, with exhibition projects in his Berlin art salon Cassirer, and as a publisher, he pursued his goal of introducing French Impressionism to the German cultural landscape with great passion.

Cassirer also promoted the young  avant-garde with artists such as Modersohn-Becker, Kirchner, Munch and Barlach, and supported the Berlin Secession.

The significance of his legendary work for art is impressively demonstrated by the selected exhibits in the special exhibition at the Alte Nationalgalerie.
