The sea is a vast collective mirror. A thousand rivers, streams and trickles flow into it. They dance as they carve their paths, flowing round stones, eroding structures. Water is dammed up until it rises over the obstacle or breaks down the barriers. Even the tiniest trickle has something unstoppable about it. We see ourselves in it, liquefied. Water is the oldest of the futuristic mirrors.

In *Caminhos das Águas – Unstoppable Flow*, the dancer and choreographer Fernanda Costa seeks new, self-determined images for Black women*. White binary thinking divides the world into opposites, into conflicting values. The prevailing order is restrictive and disparaging, to the point where self-images are rendered worthless.
Together with three Black dancers*, the choreographer works on liquefaction – of categories, of movements, of mirror images. And on a transformed relationship between the inner and the outer. After all, we are water, for the most part at least. Perhaps the body is a state of matter, like ice and vapour, and, like them, a threat to static structures.
*Caminhos das Águas – Unstoppable Flow* is part of the dance series *How I Become, How I Want to Be* at the Ballhaus Naunynstraße, in which three Black female choreographers explore the key sources of inspiration, solidarity and connections that empower self-determined Black femininities.
It marks Fernanda Costa’s choreographic debut at the Ballhaus Naunynstraße.
