Day of Action in Tempelhof-Schöneberg
You’ll take a vintage bus to Tempelhof Airport. There, you’ll enjoy a guided tour that highlights significant events from the airport’s multifaceted history. The tour will take you to places such as the check-in hall, the former transit corridor, and the Hall of Honor.

The bus then continues to the “Gartenstadt Neu-Tempelhof” housing estate. There, you’ll visit one of four flat bunkers from World War II, built in 1940–41 to protect the population during air raids. A bunker expert on site will give a brief introduction and answer questions.
The bus tour also proceeds to the Schwerbelastungskörper (heavy load-testing structure). In the mid-1930s, the Nazi regime planned a radical transformation of Berlin into the “World Capital of Germania.” Architect Albert Speer designed gigantic structures for the new north-south axis. To test whether Berlin’s soil could support the weight of the planned structures, Speer had a load-bearing test structure built in 1942: 13,000 metric tons of concrete, 14 meters high and 18 meters deep. Today, this colossus stands as the last remnant of Nazi urban planning for the north-south axis. You’ll learn during the tour whether the ground would have withstood the load.
This tour is part of the Berlin Industrial Heritage Festival.
