Day of Action in Tempelhof-Schöneberg
One stop is the Museum of Communication Berlin, which is opening its doors exclusively for this event. The former granary of the Prussian Guard Train Battalion is now a cultural repository: it houses the museum’s collection on the history of the postal service. Take a look behind the scenes and, during a guided tour, explore mailboxes, post office signs, postcards, postmarks, uniforms, and many other artifacts related to the history of communication.
In addition, the “Saubere Zeiten” association welcomes you with a guided tour on the history of Berlin’s municipal sanitation services. On a walk through the grounds, you’ll discover historic buildings from the era of the Prussian Army. At the depot, you’ll find vehicles and equipment used for waste collection and street cleaning.
A vintage bus will also take you to Natur Park Südgelände. There, a guided tour will introduce you to the park’s history and its unique urban ecological features. Over the past few decades, a unique natural oasis with unspoiled forests and open dry areas has emerged. Rare mosses, herbs, and insects have found a new habitat on the site of the former rail yard. Take in the diverse sights of this significant park, which you’ll see in a whole new light afterward.
The round-trip tour ends around 3:30 p.m. back at the BSR main workshop. This tour is part of the Berlin Industrial Heritage Festival.
Additional information
The Berlin Industrial Heritage Festival offers you the chance to experience the city in a whole new way. From 12 September to 4 October, around 100 events will bring the visible and invisible heritage of industrialisation to life.
