Treffen junger Autor*innen

Films and TV series are the medium of our time, and yet they, too, begin with words. The writers’ room behind major hit series is like an inventor’s laboratory, and many of us would love to be there when the scripts for our favourite films are being written.

But how does one actually write for the big screen or the small screen? What makes a text capable of conjuring up images in the mind’s eye?

In screenwriting, the text serves as the basis for all further creative processes – yet it usually remains unseen. Screenplays are rarely published or read, even though they form the foundation of a film.

On this evening, they will be speaking with three young screenwriters at different stages of their careers. All have taken part in the national competition ‘up-and-coming Int. Film Festival Hannover’. Literature is usually defined by language – screenplays, on the other hand, work primarily with plot, imagery and a very specific structure. What does the literary task of a screenwriter entail when language itself is so pared down?

Jury member Kristin Höller will explore these and other questions together with our guests.

Afterwards, the audience will hear excerpts from the screenplays of the three writers.
