So once again, it was clear that Beth Gibbons remains an exceptional singer who works at her own pace, only making herself heard when she has something to share.
The ten tracks on *Lives Outgrown* still have a similarly hypnotic effect to her Portishead songs, even though they take a different musical approach, leaning more towards folk and jazz. She recorded them with two renowned collaborators: drummer Lee Harris of Talk Talk and producer James Ford (Arctic Monkeys, Florence and the Machine, Depeche Mode). Harris came on board early on and helped Gibbons find the right groove and the right sound for the record.
So Beth Gibbons is bringing the band together one last time – the very band that has defined those incredibly atmospheric concerts based on this album over recent years – an experience not to be missed. Especially as, given the pace of things, you never know how many years it will be before you can see them live again.
