Kirill Petrenko conducts a concert program filled with evocative images of nature: Beethoven’s Sixth Symphony, the “Pastoral,” is a tribute to country life while also presenting a broad panorama of human emotions.
Mendelssohn’s Hebrides Overture, on the other hand, takes us to Scotland—more precisely, to the legendary Fingal’s Cave. Edvard Grieg’s Piano Concerto, featuring Leif Ove Andsnes as soloist, evokes associations with the Norwegian landscape—with echoes of Nordic folklore and solo passages in which trolls and elves seem to storm the concert stage.
