The tour explores Berlin’s development into Germany’s political centre and the significance of the 1991 decision to make Berlin the seat of government and parliament following reunification. It highlights the political, architectural and historical changes in the parliamentary district and their importance for democracy and German unity.
Particular emphasis is placed on former Chancellor Helmut Kohl and his role in German reunification, as well as in establishing Berlin as the new political capital. Along the River Spree, key buildings and institutions are introduced and their architectural and historical significance explained.
