Performance by Armin Hokmi

How can we conceive of a dance repertoire that goes beyond what we already know and appreciate? This question serves as the starting point for the project “Bazm (Repertoire)” by Iranian choreographer Armin Hokmi, which will celebrate its German premiere at Radialsystem in July 2026.

The work envisions a fully constructed repertoire that turns the concept itself into a lens through which the recognition, authentication, and conception of dance and choreography are actively questioned.

With subtlety and precision, Armin Hokmi and a group of international artists bring a choreography to the stage whose movement material—though impulsive—is absorbed by the dancers’ bodies like delicately crafted sculptures. Persistently, phrase by phrase, the dance takes on new forms, its gaze shifting alternately inward and outward. Movements from the heart and the bones, subtle shifts, and twitching gestures—sometimes completely unrestrained, sometimes gentle and patient—reveal what it means to create a world together: a cabinet of curiosities of dance.
