Based on the memoirs of Irene Grumach-Shirun, as recorded by Jill Levenfeld
Bärchen, nicknamed “Bär,” is a teddy bear over 100 years old. His eyes have seen a lot. He was there during some very beautiful moments, but also during some very terrible ones—for example, when the walls shook from the bombs. Or when Irene’s grandmother was deported.
Until now, Bär has preferred to avoid these memories. Now, he joins us as we enter rooms that have long been locked away, where key moments in his life are brought back to life through shadow play and sound. A documentary theater piece about the life of a Jewish child under the Nazi dictatorship, told from the perspective of a teddy bear.
