BANG! is a ‘loud’, rebellious duet between two women at the intersection of the street and the home, political tension and agency, anger and intimacy, surveillance and solidarity, control and trust.

It is underpinned by two actions: the banging of pots and pans as a transnational, historical form of political protest, and ‘bed dancing’, which this performance presents as a contemporary form of political processing and transformation.

The performance is a choreographic exploration and response to how the kitchen and the bed can be appropriated or activated from feminist perspectives in order to develop and process political solidarity, stances and statements.

In the face of dwindling opportunities to express unease, outrage and dissatisfaction with political authorities in the public sphere, the question arises as to how this public sentiment can be processed and channelled.

What does ‘bed’ mean in the absence of rest and comfort – and what can it offer in a socio-political crisis? What forms of protest can people develop when public demonstrations are criminalised and demonstrators face the threat of prosecution?

In BANG!, an artistic space is created to explore the potential and limitations of non-violent forms of protest, whilst emphasising the need to strengthen transnational cooperation, interdependence and solidarity in times of global conflict and the rise of far-right, populist politics.
