BACKSTAGE – The Musical is a full-length theatre show featuring live spoken dialogue, plenty of humour, elaborate choreography and lip-sync performances set to new original songs and well-known tracks.

It tells the story of a wild night backstage at a queer Berlin party. And with ten years’ party experience under their belts, the Gimme Moritz team can certainly sing a song or two about it – quite literally. They spent over two years writing the play, composing and recording their own songs, and rehearsing until they dropped, all to deliver a truly phenomenal show to their guests. And on each of these evenings, a very special guest star will make it a unique experience.

BACKSTAGE – The Musical delivers a rousing storyline and a gripping show, whilst also addressing – with a touch of humour – the current challenges facing queer nightlife and the power and resilience of the community.

The plot:

For a long time now, the party trio – consisting of drag queens Anna Klatsche and Victoria Bacon, and bar owner Kilian – have been organising a series of queer parties at a Berlin club. But after ten years, the three find themselves facing major challenges. Queer nightlife is currently undergoing a radical transformation, and to make matters worse, the club’s manager has also increased the rent the trio pay for their party. Does this spell the end of the party? The trio hatch a plan, as they’re not about to let this get them down so easily. But what do the club owner’s mysterious past, a mysterious visitor to the club and a glamorous guest star have to do with the story? And will the trio be able to save the party? You’ll find out all this in BACKSTAGE – The Musical.

About the show:

“It’s the fulfilment of a huge dream,” says Victoria Bacon from Gimme Moritz about BACKSTAGE. “We spent two years writing the play, rehearsed for months, and now we can finally invite guests to our Backstage – a surreal moment.” Kilian from Gimme Moritz adds: “We’ve been coming up with acting trailers for our parties for ten years now. Finally channelling all that energy into a full-length play makes us incredibly proud, and it’s really turned out to be a phenomenal show. And all without using any AI. We simply locked ourselves away for two years, fine-tuned the script and, with the help of a brilliant music producer, wrote and recorded our own songs.” Anna Klatsche also promises great entertainment: “Ten years of organising parties also means ten years of mad moments backstage, that magical place at every party. We’ve now packed all these stories and experiences into our play. But the play isn’t just meant to be good entertainment; it also addresses the current challenges facing queer nightlife.”
