Program for blind, visually impaired, and sighted visitors to the permanent exhibition
Art at the beginning of the 20th century, with its new conception of humanity, transformed perspectives and broke down barriers. The visual arts, literature, music and architecture converged in artistic processes. Berlin became a key centre for emerging artistic movements.

Berlinische Galerie, auf dem Weg zum barrierefreien Museum
Expressionists such as Otto Möller and Gottfried Benn, for instance, expressed their subjective experience of the world through their painting and poetry. Architecture, too, took an expressionist turn. This led Otto Bartning, for example, with his crystal-like Sternkirche, to a completely new design for a place of worship. Finally, Dada broke down the last remaining conventions with collages, sound poems and chance music. This gave rise to unimagined notions of what art can and may do.
Tour participants will encounter all of this on a guided tour of the permanent exhibition, during which they will listen, touch and share their impressions with one another.
